Wildfire near Reno contained

RENO -- Firefighters declared victory on Saturday over a wildfire that scorched nearly 800 acres along Interstate 80 in the eastern Sierra Nevada.

Fire officials said the blaze just west of the California line was fully contained at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The fire that broke out Monday had sent up a huge smoke plume that could be seen around Reno, and prompted health officials to urge residents to refrain from outdoor exercise.

"Drift smoke is still possible" until the fire is extinguished, fire spokesman Franklin Pemberton said Saturday.

The specific cause of the fire is under investigation, though fire officials have determined it was human caused.
