With Beers in, Futrell’s out in Las Vegas Ward 2

Former television journalist Ron Futrell says he won't run for the Las Vegas Ward 2 City Council seat vacated by Steve Wolfson.

Futrell, 55, had been among several people who declared an interest in the seat after the Clark County Commission appointed Wolfson to the job of district attorney, replacing David Roger who left for a job with the Las Vegas Police Protective Association.

But Futrell's role as the highest profile conservative to declare interest was eclipsed Thursday when former legislator Bob Beers, a Republican and fiscal conservative, announced he would run for the seat .

The winner will serve until June 2013, which is the end of what was Wolfson's term.

People wishing to run for the seat can file for candidacy Tuesday or Wednesday at the new City Hall, 495 S. Main St.
