Woman charged with murder by child abuse in death of 1-year-old son
A Las Vegas woman has been arrested on a charge of murder by child abuse in the death of a 1-year-old boy who was taken to the hospital on Mother's Day.
Azucena De La Cruz, 24, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and charged in the death of her son, who officials said suffered blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
Police investigated the case after the boy was brought to a local hospital and his injuries were found to be consistent with child abuse.
The investigation is ongoing. No charges are anticipated against the boy's father, but two young siblings of the boy have been placed in protective custody.
