Woman taken to hospital following garage fire

Las Vegas firefighters responded to a garage fire on Saturday near Lamb Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

Multiple people called just before 4:30 p.m., describing smoke billowing out of an apartment in the 4300 block of Sunrise Avenue, according to a release.

The smoke stemmed from a trash can in the garage and the fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes.

A woman, the only person home at the time of the fire, went to a hospital after firefighters recommended she get checked for smoke inhalation, said Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski.

Szymanski said the woman appeared groggy and disoriented.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the damage was estimated at $10,000.
