Woman who died after jumping out of van identified

A woman who died Wednesday at University Medical Center after jumping out of a medical van on U.S. Highway 95 has been identified as 19-year-old Rebecca Chavez of Las Vegas.

Chavez died from blunt force trauma to the head after jumping from the vehicle and hitting the pavement, the Clark County coroner's office said Friday. The coroner's office ruled her death a suicide.

Chavez jumped from the northbound van at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 95 near Ann Road, the Nevada Highway Patrol said. She was transported to UMC, where she died Wednesday night.
