With apologies to Sports Illustrated's regular feature, "This Week's Sign the Apocalypse is Upon Us":

A New Jersey lawmaker has protested the inclusion of Thomas Nast -- dubbed the Father of the American Political Cartoon and the creator of the donkey and elephant symbols tied to the Democratic and Republican parties -- on the list of potential inductees to the state's Hall of Fame because the 19th-century cartoonist's body of work includes two drawings that the legislator considers offensive to Irish-Americans.
