Goodman leaking support?

In a largely uneventful municipal primary election Tuesday, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman won a third and final term. But the victory was a somber one.

Not only did the mayor fall short of attaining 90 percent of the vote -- as he had not so secretly hoped -- he couldn't even muster the 86 percent he pulled in 2003.

Instead, Mr. Goodman limped into his final four years with a paltry 84 percent.

"It is what it is," he said of the results.

To make matters worse for Mr. Goodman, it now appears he may not even be the most popular member of the City Council. In Ward 3, incumbent Gary Reese cruised to re-election with 86 percent of the vote, 2 percentage points higher than Mr. Goodman achieved.

Will the dais be big enough for the both of them now that Mr. Reese has bested Mr. Goodman?

We await the inevitable fireworks.
