Evie Oquendo thought the worst was over when her son’s violent outburst ended outside their east valley apartment Tuesday as he finally became calm after swallowing a handful of her anti-anxiety pills. But the confrontation had been reported to Las Vegas police, setting in motion a chain of events that ended with the teenager dead at his mother’s feet.

On Aug. 20, Kenny MacAskill, cabinet secretary for justice, announced the nation of Scotland’s release on humanitarian grounds of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi. To date, Megrahi is the sole person convicted of a dire act of terrorism — the Dec. 21, 1988, bombing of a commercial airplane which crashed in Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 people.
