51s bring out big bats in blowout over Aces

The 51s piled up all their runs by the fourth inning Wednesday night, pounding the host Reno Aces 16-8 in a Pacific Coast League game.
Las Vegas (41-33) did the bulk of its damage in a seven-run second inning, then added four runs in the third and five in the fourth. Adam Loewen had an RBI triple in the second, and Eric Thames had a single to lead off the inning and a two-run single to cap it.
In the third inning, Manny Mayorson hit a grand slam, and in the fourth, David Cooper had the big blow with a three-run shot to make it 16-2. The 51s totaled 19 hits, with 18 coming during the three-inning barrage.
Mayorson finished 3-for-6 with six RBIs, Thames went 4-for-6, and Evan Frey was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a double. After a solid six innings, Las Vegas starter Rey Gonzalez (2-1) got roughed up for four runs in the seventh, but he still got the win.
Tom Layne (6-3) got yanked in the midst of the third inning for Reno (43-31), after giving up 11 runs on 10 hits and three walks.
The 51s and Aces will face each other for the seventh straight game at 7:05 p.m. today, in the third game of a four-game set at Aces Ballpark.
