51s climb out of early hole, top Aces

Brian Jeroloman had four hits, including a two-out, go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning, to help the 51s to an 11-7 victory over the host Reno Aces in a Pacific Coast League game Friday night.

Jeroloman, Las Vegas' No. 9 batter, also had an RBI single in Las Vegas' three-run second inning.

Kyle Drabek (2-2) started for the 51s (54-53) and settled down after a rough second inning, in which he allowed five runs. He ended up working six innings and giving up 10 hits -- five in the second.

After retiring Mark Hallberg on a hard grounder for the second out of the second, Drabek gave up four consecutive extra-base hits -- a two-run double to Angel Berroa, an RBI triple to Evan Frey, a two-run homer to Ryan Langerhans and a double to Tony Abreu. Cole Gillespie grounded out to end the inning, with Reno leading 5-3.

But Drabek shut out the Aces (63-43) for the rest of his outing. Quite a feat, considering that, in his first two starts with Las Vegas in mid-June, Reno got to him for nine earned runs on 12 hits and 10 walks in 4 2/3 innings -- an ERA of 17.36.

Rommie Lewis held the Aces hitless and scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings before Danny Farquhar gave up two runs on three hits in the ninth.

David Cooper's solo home run in the third inning, his ninth homer of the season, pulled Las Vegas within 5-4. The 51s then scored two runs in the sixth inning, three in the seventh and two in the eighth to pull away.

Reno starter Barry Enright (8-3) was charged with six earned runs on nine hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six.

Chris Woodward went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Las Vegas, which had a 15-13 edge in hits. Brett Lawrie had a triple and a double and scored twice, and Adam Loewen added a double and a single and scored three runs.

Langerhans, acquired by the Arizona organization Friday in a trade with Seattle, went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Berroa went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Frey finished a home run short of the cycle with two RBIs.
