51s’ Montero hit hard in loss; Mets extend Las Vegas contract for two years

The Albuquerque Isotopes roughed up 51s starter Rafael Montero for eight runs, five in the fifth inning, and defeated Las Vegas 10-5 on Thursday in a Pacific Coast League game in Albuquerque, N.M.

Montero (6-4) allowed the eight runs, five of them earned, on 11 hits and two walks in six innings, with five strikeouts. Catcher Griff Erickson went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a two-run single in the fifth, for the Isotopes (60-79).

Daniel Muno hit a two-run homer in the second and Brandon Allen a solo shot in the ninth for the 51s (80-61).

Earlier Thursday, the New York Mets announced that they have renewed their contract with Las Vegas for two more years.

The 51s will be the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate through the 2016 season.

“Maintaining continuity in Vegas is something we know will benefit our players, the city, fans and entire community,” Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said in a release.
