51s’ offense comes up empty in 2-0 loss to Redbirds
The 51s got off to a slow start on their eight-game trip, losing to the Memphis Redbirds 2-0 Tuesday in a Pacific Coast League game in Memphis, Tenn.
Las Vegas (11-21) equaled Memphis (18-12) with six hits but couldn't score. In fact, J.P. Arencibia was the only 51s player to reach second base, doubling in the seventh and ninth innings.
Angel Sanchez went 2-for-3 for Las Vegas.
The 51s sent the minimum three batters to the plate in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings.
The Redbirds scored in the fourth inning on a Bryan Anderson RBI triple, then went up 2-0 on Nick Stavinoha's bases-loaded single in the fifth.
Las Vegas wasted a solid outing by starter Brad Mills (0-4), who allowed five hits and a walk in six innings while striking out nine.
Evan MacLane went eight innings for Memphis, allowing five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
After a dismal start to the season, the 51s had won five of seven before arriving in Memphis. Las Vegas is 3-13 on the road.
The second game of the four-game series is at 9:05 a.m. today. The 51s will travel to Nashville for a four-game series beginning Friday, then return home May 21 to face Oklahoma City.
