51s squelch rally, hold on to beat Beavers

The 51s held off a ninth-inning rally to beat the host Portland Beavers 7-6 on Monday night in a Pacific Coast League game.

Las Vegas (39-46) took control with three runs in the third inning and four more runs in the fourth to build a 7-2 lead.

In the third, Mike McCoy had an RBI groundout after Danny Perales' triple, and Jarrett Hoffpauir and J.P. Arencibia both scored after a throwing error.

Manny Mayorson and Perales had back-to-back doubles in the fourth, though Mayorson had to hold up at third base.

J.P. Arencibia drew a bases-loaded walk, Perales and Hoffpauir scored after another fielding error, and Adam Calderone hit an RBI single.

Portland (32-52) got two runs in the fifth, then made things interesting with two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth off 51s reliever Jeremy Accardo before he could close it out to earn his 11th save of the season.

Hoffpauir and Arencibia both finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
