51s trail quickly, can’t catch up in 7-4 loss to Bees
Peter Bourjos led off the game with a home run and Mark Trumbo had four RBIs to carry the Salt Lake Bees to a 7-4 victory over the 51s on Monday in the Pacific Coast League at Salt Lake City.
Las Vegas (27-38) trailed 3-0 before getting an out as the Bees (33-29) expanded their lead on an RBI double by Jeff Mathis and a single by Mark Trumbo.
Salt Lake added two runs and chased 51s starter Rommie Lewis in the third inning. Lewis allowed five runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings, with no walks and two strikeouts. Sean Henn pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and one walk, with four strikeouts.
Will Smith came within an out of recording Salt Lake's first nine-inning complete game of the season. He went 8 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits. He struck out five and walked none.
Brian Dopirak homered, Adam Calderone had two hits and two RBIs, and Jorge Padilla supplied two hits for the 51s, who lost their third straight after a season-best four-game win streak.
Mathis had two hits, two RBIs and three runs for the Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.
