Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, August 28
August 27, 2015 - 6:53 pm
Post Time 4 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Keezheekoni – Key for me is her good dirt effort two races ago; was well overmatched on turf in last, so returns to her preferred surface.
6 More Stormyweather – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this new career low; was taken for $32K by Mark Glatt a year ago, but has not been productive.
Long Shot – 5 Flat Footed Mama
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Midnight Belle – Tepid chalk in a really wide open affair; exits a key race where Gloryzapper airballed next out in a stakes race.
7 Entebbe – Finally woke up with a huge effort last time; it was the best race of her career closing with purpose, key will be if she can improve another step.
Long Shot – 1 Madam Aamoura
Race 3 –5 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $72,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Desert Steel – Has found a nice niche as a stalking turf sprinter; big rider switch to Flavien Prat as Tyler Baze opted to ride Bonus Spin for Jeff Mullins.
8 Codacious – Made her first turf start a good one in winning a grass sprint last time out; she draws a parking lot post but should get a trip under Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot – 3 Tale of Papa Nick
Race 4 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $72,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
6 Matriculate – Was grinding late in last when a stride short; he looks like the kind of horse that needs some help on the front end to set up his closer style.
4 Hye I’m Jack – Has put together four straight good races in a row; has shown improvement with each start too, question will be where is his ceiling.
Long Shot – 2 Cornbread Red
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $40,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Minster’adventure – The maestro Jerry Hollendorfer is tough anytime, but he is fighting for the trainer title this meet; every horse he’ll send out is live.
3 Vow Me Over – Has tactical speed to sit a nice trip throughout; with the turf rail at 30 feet, it will pay to be forwardly place on the course.
Long Shot – 2 Blind Dreams
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, $150,000 Generous Portion, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Obey – Gritty win last time in winning the CTBAB stakes; that’s a good sign because if she gets into a dogfight again she won’t be a shrinking violet.
6 Run for Retts – Chance to be the speed of the speed; Corey Nakatani is riding great but not getting a lot of chances, if he reads the Form right, he’ll send.
Long Shot – 9 Patriotic Diamond
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
14 Canadian Exchange – May get extra value out of the pick drawing in off the also eligible list; I liked her last start and she can improve off of that.
8 Scatchmeifyoucan – Has had two chances now at this bottom maiden claiming $20K level; this is a slowpoke group but she has coughed it up late in her races.
Long Shot – 7 Alpha Doll
Best Bet - 14 Canadian Exchange (race 7)
