Horse racing: Today at Hollywood Park, July 12
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $10,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Stoneside - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this new low level; closer who finds a faint hearted group today.
3 Big Note - He is lone early speed, the best bet in horse racing; still not sure if that will be enough.
Long Shot - 2 Inflamed Spirit
Race 2 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $57,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Miss Ellany - Now this filly is lone speed I can accept; she was sharp in victory last time, facing no better tonight.
2 Creditcardroulette - Should be able to sit a trip stretching out from sprint to route; Gary Stevens is a cagey veteran.
Long Shot - 5 Freedom Reigns
Race 3 - 5 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
7 Snowmass Village - You’ll have a big edge over me seeing the action on the FTS; this one is bred to be quick and precocious.
4 Western Showdown - Has run two competitive races so far among 3 career starts; need not be much to compete today.
Long Shot - 3 Grand Point
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Horizontalyspeakin - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; big rider switch to Julien Leparoux.
1 Mikey T - Takes a huge class drop to face a much easier task; can save all the ground hugging the rail throughout.
Long Shot - 6 Our Lucky Son
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Tiz Anna - Loses her rider to Flaxen Maiden; however, Rafael Bejarano is an able sub for the morning line chalk.
3 Flaxen Maiden - Doug O’Neill has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; he’s done his damage mainly with Mario Gutierrez.
Long Shot - 6 Salt Tequila Lime
Race 6 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Glorius Luck - Impressive debut win at 15/1 odds for Carla Gaines; won’t get near that price as she tipped her hand.
4 Luckyvic - Has a good resume of cashing paychecks; key is he’s 1-for-20 lifetime meaning he is a nibbler at best.
Long Shot - 3 Luxuriance
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Twin Six - Agonizing loss in last when Captain Beau passed on the final stride; a repeat race is good enough to win here.
2 Amp and Adrenalin - Broke his maiden for $18K two races ago; was overmatched in last, now returned to face his friends.
Long Shot - 1 I’m Denny Crane
Race 8 - 5 furlong (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000. Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Concave - You’ll have a major edge over me in seeing the tote action on a field of FTS; my dart lands on Doug O’Neill filly.
9 Amy Jane - Intrigued by the team of Peter Miller and Garrett Gomez; good to see Go-Go back before the start of Del Mar.
Long Shot - 7 Sierra Electrica
Best Bet - 2 Glorius Luck (race 6)
Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/2/$10.00; Long Shots, 8/3/$25.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
Hollywood Park Totals - 776/196/$1,307.40; Long Shots, 376/56/$614.00; Best Bets, 45/16/$65.20
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #4 M P Ruckus (7/2) in race 9 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Arriba Anna ran out at Belmont Park. Stats - 111/71/$540.50; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
