TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Plenny of Henny - Was a voided claim, thus kept by trainer Bill Spawr; no shock if he wins right back.
5 Position A - Back class veteran woke up in last with a decent second; no world beaters here, these are his friends.
Long Shot - 2 Street Car
Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
6 Apostle Paul - Twice beaten chalk gets reunited with Rafael Bejarano; is fast enough, just needs that killer instinct.
5 Irish Surf - Like that Dan Hendricks is adding blinkers on; many in here have a tendency to hang in the late stages.
Long Shot - 3 Indycott
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Black N Beauty - Two big moves by Peter Miller off the claim; he adds blinkers on and this is a first time gelding.
4 Gnarly Dude - He ran one of my favorite lines; lost rider two back, then returned to win last time out.
Long Shot - 6 Hadfunlastnight
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Spirited Touch - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; taking a huge class drop from MSW to maiden claiming.
9 Cast a Doubt - Twice beaten favorite is frustrating as all heck; third start in form cycle off a long layoff.
Long Shot - 1 Promissoryexchange
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf), $150,000 Royal Heroine Mile, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Schiaparelli - Is developing into a nice turf horse; Mike Pupye now stretching her out in distance in a class test.
5 Egg Drop - Looked like a brand new horse last time in her turf debut; he class work is accelerated in a tough spot.
Long Shot - 6 I Dazzle
Race 6 - 5 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
6 Secret Compass - Bob Baffert FTS cost a cool $425K; for that price they better be able to run fast.
2 Spy Girl - FTS from Peter Miller, that’s usually a good sign; key vote comes from Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot - 1 Stop Smiling
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Knucklebuster - Broke his maiden off a year hiatus; is it too much to ask for a repeat, this is a really slow group.
9 Prime Number - Been knocking on the door of this class in his last two starts; one step improvement can provide minor upset.
Long Shot - 12 Suances Candy
Race 8 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $54,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
1 Swift Eagle - Like the speed from the rail angle; especially with Rafael Bejarano making the right decisions.
4 Super Ability - Well regarded 5-YO only started once before this year; must have talent to of waited that long.
Long Shot - 2 Guest Star
Race 9 - 1 1/4 miles, $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, 3-year-olds and up
2 Game on Dude - Hasn’t started since winning the Charles Town Classic on April 20; won four straight under Mike Smith.
1 Clubhouse Ride - Looked around last time in the Californian and didn’t see Game on Dude; can be a millionaire after this.
Long Shot - 3 Oilisblackgold
Race 10 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, 3-year-olds and up
14 Super Dice - Some handicappers overlook a horse stuck out in the parking lot; takes a big class drop for this.
2 Dramatic Allan - Moves to the rail with the scratch of Slight Edge; suspect Victor Espinoza should send and go on with it.
Long Shot - 11 Alsace
Best Bet - #2 Game on Dude (race 9)
Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$32.40; Long Shots, 9/3/$34.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80
