Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, December 5

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds

10 Speedy Tornado - Beaten favorite was his own worst enemy in last; chance to rebound and at a more generous price.

7 Dance Dee a Door O - Been good enough to finish 4-for-4 in the money so far; tactical speed to sit a decent trip.

Long Shot - 3 Sterling Wager

Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 Traweek - 5-YO is winless in 8 starts this year; like rooting for Iggy Puglisi, who always tries hard and you get good value too.

8 Warren’s Jeff G. - Was overmatched last time at Santa Anita; this group is easier and he’s run well over the Orange County course.

Long Shot - 2 Caliente Cat

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $42,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

1 Sweet Renata - FTS from the Craig Dollase barn; like that HOF Gary Stevens decides to ride here at Los Alamitos.

9 Slew’s Charm - Has had a lot of chances; the key for me is none of those chances came with Rafael Bejarano riding.

Long Shot - 7 Lucky Illusion

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Desert Madam - Just missed last time in a good second at Del Mar; this group is easier, but she has a tendency to nibble.

7 Diamonds Dena - Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano know what he’s doing; big class drop, her best race came here at Los Al.

Long Shot - 3 Swissarella

Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 She’s Discreet - Figures to get full odds with Aaron Gryder up; it’s just that he doesn’t ride much, nor does he get overbet.

10 Afleet Echo - Tepid chalk must overcome a difficult parking lot post; has the right rider, Rafael Bejarano, to carve out a trip.

Long Shot - 3 Mango Reward

Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $42,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

7 Zendai - Lost to future stakes winner Ocho Ocho Ocho last time out; no such animal in here, chance to boss pillar to post.

5 Pocketball - Debuted for a price tag and was not claimed; Adam Kitchingman got away with one, now gets protected.

Long Shot - 9 Discreet prince

Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming 40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Swiss Lake Yodeler - Gets class relief from tough stakes for this condition race; tactical speed to sit a decent trip throughout.

7 Fleet of Gold - Mike Smith rarely shows at Los Al; that must mean this one is the goods or he wouldn’t be in the jocks room.

Long Shot - 4 Tacit Approval

Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Unbridled Loyalty - Return of Alex Canchari who was injured quite a few months ago; showed ability in his brief SoCal experience.

2 Militant - Can’t recall picking too many Joe Steiner horses in this file; speedy sort in a potential no passing zone affair.

Long Shot - 6 Warren’s Sunny Boy

Best Bet - 7 Zendai (race 6)

Los Alamitos Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$28.00; Long Shots, 8/1/$17.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Del Mar Final Totals - 246/63/$407.40; Long Shots, 125/20/$202.60; Best Bets, 15/2/$10.80

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #7 Readyheartandsoul (2/1) in race 6 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Perfect Freud won at Aqueduct paying $4.60 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.60 to show. Stats - 187/110/$999.60; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
