Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, December 6
December 5, 2014 - 9:38 pm
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds
2 Litigation Road - Woke up with a good try in last, first for a price tag; Leandro Mora takes the blinkers off today.
5 Empire Cat - Any horse with Rafael Bejarano up gets a second look from me; he has a way of squeezing something extra with each mount.
Long Shot - 9 Desert Express
Race 2 - 5 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Faith Proff - Big wins back to back and was claimed both times; is dropped in for $8K tonight, as big a red flag as you’ll find.
5 Miss American Pie - Speeddy sort has ground out three wins lifetime; was in a little too tough last time at Del Mar.
Long Shot - 3 Smil’n From Above
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds
7 Echo Zulu - Claimed by underrated trainer Adam Kitchingman; won sharp in last, is well spotted to repeat that effort.
1 Sir Barclay - Reunited with Rafael Bejarano; last time he won was four races back with Bejarano up.
Long Shot - 6 Sudden Rumor
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
1 Arctic Code - Big favorite in one of the uglier races on the card; last time he ran at Los Al was in the E.B. Johnston stakes.
3 Feed the Fire - Has a little pop early but has been nearly eased late; suspect a group this poor could be a no passing zone race.
Long Shot - 5 Kalihi Sun
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Second City - Claimed by Robertino Diodoro out of a solid second; he has a strong resume for improving off the claim.
3 Dysprosium - Taking a huge class drop to face much easier; need not be much under Tyler Baze to compete with these.
Long Shot - 9 Tama County
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $42,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Live for Now - Has some early speed so I could see Tyler Baze sending hard early; did everything but win last time out.
1 Fascinating - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this filly had no excuse last time, a perfect trip placing.
Long Shot - 3 Lady Bugatti
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, $200,000 Bayakoa, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Yahilwa - Rail post will allow her to save all the ground; was a sharp winner of the Treasure Chest at Delta Downs in last.
3 Tiz Midnight - Can excuse the effort in a tough Breeders’ Cup Distaff field; she may try and butt heads with Yahilwas early on.
Long Shot - 2 Legacy
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Kafister - Won well off the claim by David Bernstein; is protected tonight, but has the back class to run another good one.
8 Hadfunlastnight - Did everything but win last time as a beaten favorite; makes his Los Alamitos debut in here.
Long Shot - 5 Door’s Open
Race 9 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Beach Fever - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; only horse to actually finish first in a race.
5 Badwater - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to compete.
Long Shot - 6 Salt of the Earth
Best Bet - 1 Second City (race 5)
Los Alamitos Friday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$14.60; Long Shots, 7/1/$28.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Los Alamitos Totals - 31/8/$42.60; Long Shots, 15/2/$45.80; Best Bets, 2/0/$0
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #3 Regulus (3/1) in race 3 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Readyheartandsoul won at Aqueduct paying $7.00 to win, $3.50 to place and $11.80 to show. Stats - 188/111/$1,021.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
