Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, July 3
July 2, 2015 - 8:09 pm
Post Time 2:15 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Hold Me Fast - This field is so poor, I decided upon one of the three FTS in the field; watch the tote board for additional clues.
8 Stunning Taste - Of the ones with experience, this is one that shows a little bit of moxie; need not be much to graduate today.
Long Shot - 1 Mayie
Race 2 - 5 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
7 Octofy - Another FTS from trainer Doug O’Neill gets my nod; the ones with experience show weakness, the FTS still are unblemished.
6 Some Caan Job - Showed much improved speed in her second career start; one step improvement for Edward Freeman may be enough.
Long Shot - 5 Sharpest One
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Jetbird - Tiny edge in a difficult heat; key edge for me is she won her lone start at Los Alamitos, switch to Martin Pedroza helps too.
6 Awe Gee - Tepid chalk in a wide open affair; sliding down the claiming ladder to the lowest class of her brief career.
Long Shot - 8 Rich in Tradition
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Lana Caprina - Two frustrating losses to start her 2015 season; positive is she came out running after a moribund first five starts.
3 Shallot - Edward Freeman is a solid trainer and he smells blood this Los Alamitos meet; would not be shocked to see him win races.
Long Shot - 4 Just Bookin
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
3 Heavenly Haze - Was well bet in his career debut; he ran well for second despite getting tired late, expect improvement tonight.
6 Peacock Strut - FTS from the Bob Baffert barn; he supports Los Alamitos racing as he is a long time friend of owner Ed Allred.
Long Shot - 1 Visibility
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Passinaflash - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this lowest level; he almost is, dare we say, shooting fish in a barrel.
1 Desert Gem - Don’t mind a rail skimming ride in a two-turn mile; sprinter stretching out figures to show a lot more early speed.
Long Shot - 6 Aaron Again
Race 7 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Codacious - Did a classic pop and stop last time out; her two races before that are both good enough to beat this group.
7 Desert Thief - Was claimed four races ago; was aimed too high, but has been well spotted today and in her last two starts before that.
Long Shot - 1 Crazy About Him
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $21,000, Starter allowance $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Perfect Set - Claimed by the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer and showed rapid improvement; ran for $25K in last, has a back class edge too.
9 Shame On Alex - Ron Ellis won the Bertrando on day one; sharp trainer can find soft spots to win money for his owners this meet.
Long Shot - 2 American Blend
Best Bet - 8 Passinaflash (race 6)
Los Alamitos Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/4/$15.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$7.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
