Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, Sept. 18

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Lil Cheyenne – Jockey Flavien Prat was in a spill yesterday, have not heard an update on his condition as of this writing; he is one of the fine young talents.
6 Class Divine – Among many sliding down the claiming ladder to this low rung; last race was a real stinker but it was at Del Mar while facing a much stronger crew.
Long Shot – 4 Mudge

Race 2 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Mc Hottie – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Steve Miyadi is having a strong meet, adding blinkers on to this filly too.
1 Vronsky's Devka – Has good speed and the rail lanes have really improved from early in the meet; has been well bet in her races so she'll garner a lot of support.
Long Shot – 2 Miss Lori

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Starter allowance $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Shared Image – Can't imagine Rafael Bejarano would show up this meet unless he is ultra live; claimed in last by Mark Glatt and very importantly runs protected in here.
3 Sallyana – Galloped to victory last time at Del Mar like she was feeling full of herself; runs protected today and that means a lot for this class of animal.
Long Shot – 2 Best in Class

Race 4 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
4 Concord's Star – Trainer Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry of two FTS so caveat emptor; would be really surprised if one of them doesn't win this heat.
3 Uninvited – This is the other Bob Baffert FTS and he gets none other than Rafael Bejarano to ride; your edge over me will be to watch the tote board with 5 FTS.
Long Shot – 7 Big Finish

Race 5 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $6,250, 3-year-olds and up
3 Brando the Birdman – Last seen running a solid second at Del Mar while facing much tougher foes; Bill Spawr is one of the best returning a horse sharp off a layoff.
1 Dress Code – One of the best trainer angles is reclaiming a horse; trainer Jack Carava had this one during some of his salad days, expect improvement tonight.
Long Shot – 4 Sunrise Legacy

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
11 So Sweetitiz – She is among 5 FTS so watch the tote board for clues; the fact that Rafael Bejarano opted to ride is strong, enough for blind faith from this corner.
5 Back Beauty – Ran well in her career debut at Santa Rosa; from the strong Jeff Bonde barn, watch the tote board action and see how live this one is.
Long Shot – 12 Smart Attraction

Race 7 – 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Derby Glass – Exits a turf race which has not been his strength; his dirt races are much better and exiting a turf race for this might be a real move forward.
2 Gunslinger – Ran well enough on turf in last where they may try it again; but for now the dirt race to point at is the 23-length maiden claiming victory two back.
Long Shot – 3 Fort Cady

Race 8 – 5 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Forever Dorothy – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; no matter how ugly the resume looks, they can wake up on this kind of drop.
9 U Go Gal – Among the 6 FTS, I'll give this Bobby Wayne Grayson filly a shot; she has been stabled at Los Alamitos so this is home for her and the barn is sneaky good.
Long Shot – 7 Twisted

Best Bet - 3 Brando the Birdman (race 5)
Los Alamitos Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$34.80; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Los Alamitos Totals - 81/25/$184.20; Long Shots, 40/7/$84.60; Best Bets, 5/3/$12.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #3 Bokeelia Island (3/1) in race 3 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Defoe Street ran out at Belmont Park. Stats - 140/94/$708.50; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
