Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, April 26
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds
5 Congrats Seattle - Ran well in last despite a huge class rise off the claim by Robertino Diodoro; drops back to face his friends.
3 Templar - Tepid chalk just got his diploma last time; it was the first race off the claim by Keith Desormeaux, facing winners here.
Long Shot - 6 Two Six Wins
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up 5
Alpha Doll - Been knocking on the door with 3-for-3 seconds; she appears claim proof as no one has grabbed her in 3 career starts.
3 Stella Moon - If you draw a line thru her turf debacle in last, her resume looks better; sliding down the maiden claiming ladder.
Long Shot - 1 Bella Breeze
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Wandering Heart - Has shown promise in both career starts; facing a slowpoke group, so if she improves a step will be double tough today.
6 Lirica Heat - Speedball figures to have an easy early lead; the question for her in 8 turf starts is can she stand up to the heat.
Long Shot - 1 It Girl Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Chocolate Delight - If it comes down to a jockey duel in the stretch, I’ll go with Tyler Baze; continues his white hot riding.
3 Midnight Lady - Claimed by the clever craftsman Julio Canani; he’s not very active nowadays, but when he fires he usually hits the mark.
Long Shot - 2 Summers Dignity
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Artistic Charm - Tiny edge in a very difficult heat; may have settled a little too close to a hot early pace in last.
8 Divina Comedia - Chance for Julio Canani daily double; makes her U.S. debut, races first time with Lasix and has Joe Talamo up.
Long Shot - 5 Chati’s On Top
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
1 Missing Groom - Corey Nakatani won on Friday with his first mount back off a clavicle injury; he’ll get the most out of this horse.
2 Brave Act - Tepid chalk in another difficult heat; with a sizeable Pick 6 carryover, I’m having trouble deciphering a strong single.
Long Shot - 4 Old Man Lake
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 Wilshire, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Blingismything - Key for me is if she can relax off a likeable fast early pace; if she can, the leaders will back up into her late.
8 Birdlover - Good test for Rafael Bejarano to settle her off the likely pacesetter Uzziel; will win if she can sit the garden spot.
Long Shot - 5 Uzziel
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Blame It On Tekela - Tight fit in a modest field; like the switch to Martin Pedroza, cagey veteran will save ground and grind late.
9 Dually Affirmed - Was over matched in last facing $50K group on the turf; back on soil and facing his friends, this spot is more like it.
Long Shot - 4 Lucky Shoes to Win Best Bet - 5 Alpha Doll (race 2)
Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/6/$41.80; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
Santa Anita Meet Totals - 33/9/$57.40; Long Shots, 16/0/$0; Best Bets, 2/1/$4.20
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #2 Frisky Warrior (10/1) in race 5 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Wasatch ran out at Churchill Downs. Stats - 58/38/$258.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
