Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, April 30
April 30, 2015 - 12:36 am
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Bluegrass Reward - Was ambitiously placed in last and it showed; he returns to face his friends and is taken to atone.
2 Dress Code - Claimed by Peter Miller, more often than not a good thing; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot - 1 Fit to Rule
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Scherzinger - Like her resume better of facing graded stakes competition; she has done so much more in her lifetime.
3 Sunday Rules - Looks like a two horse race unless the chalk duels into submission; has had long gaps in her sharp resume.
Long Shot - 2 Wasted At Midnight
Race 3 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Jackeeattackee - Horses from Dixon Downs have appeared in unsanctioned races; watch the tote board for obvious clues.
6 Esmeralda Belle - Bred top and bottom to be very quick; I like Edwin Maldonado in abbreviated sprints, hustling rider.
Long Shot - 1 One Bye Two
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
4 Smart Transition - Lost to the talented Whiskey Ticket who won the Illinois Derby next out; can handle these with one step improvement.
5 Rosicky - Typical green debut of slow early, fast late; now stretches out around 2-turns with leading rider Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot -3 Air Pocket
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Thesheetsguy - Claimed by Dean Pederson and well spotted to win at first asking; all 3 career wins have come in Arcadia.
2 I Don’t Care Who - Interesting trainer change to Richard Baltas; is re-entered in a friendly spot, good chance to win for new barn.
Long Shot - 4 Gladding
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
1 Currency Exchange - Reunited with the returning jockey Corey Nakatani; he won with his first mount back on Friday.
8 Roy H - FTS from the hot Peter Miller barn; your edge over me is you’ll see the tote board odds on this newcomer.
Long Shot - 7 Bellamy Concerto
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Molten Image - Has shown steady improvement albeit without winning; this is a soft spot and his last try is fast enough to beat these.
1 Papa Turf - Anyone who has followed me over the years know I like cutbacks in distance; especially if they showed some early speed.
Long Shot - 7 Warren’s T. Baze
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Seve’s Road - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; is a first time gelding, the ultimate change.
7 Dothraki - Another who did the ultimate equipment change, a first time gelding; that can move a problem horse up many lengths.
Long Shot - 8 Sir Irish Danny
Best Bet - 4 Smart Transition (race 4)
Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/1/$7.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
