Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, April 5

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $30,000, Starter handicap $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

4 My Jealous - Has improved nicely since Iggy Puglisi took over the riding; can lead or sit close up to the early pacesetters.

1 Persuasive Paul - Tepid morning line chalk in a real wide open opener; has won 3-of-6 starts on dirt, that’s good consistency.

Long Shot - 3 Skip Tony

Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

6 Jimbo Fallon - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; the stablemate is El Kracken, don’t expect them to duel each other.

8 Rosicky - When I see Rafael Bejarano on any horse, much less a FTS, I sit up and take notice; watch the tote board for more clues.

Long Shot - 4 El Kracken

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds

4 Kenjisstorm - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; has back class races fast enough to win here.

9 Bandido Too - In races where no one stands out, see which horse Rafael Bejarano is on; he can make a difference in close finishes.

Long Shot - 2 Cal McLish

Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $35,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

4 Katy Drama - Tiny edge in one of the hardest races on the card; stretching out around 2-turns for the first time.

3 Socialized - Joe Steiner doesn’t get many live mounts, this is one of them; riding for Cliff Sise who trains Prospect Park.

Long Shot - 10 Revenue Virginius

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $75,000 Santa Paula, Fillies, 3-year-olds

6 Enchanting Lady - No barn is going better now than the Bob Baffert barn; love this cutback angle from route to sprint. 4 Tara’s Tango - Broke her MSW at Del Mar then disappeared for 8-months; she has talent, but this is a tough sport for return. Long Shot - 3 Sensitively Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 Hawkedon - Claimed by Mike Pupye who has been kind of quiet of late; like that he hires Rafael Bejarano so they must see something.

12 Incline Village - Has a solid record down the hillside turf course; the parking lot post is good, not bad, for getting a trip.

Long Shot - 2 Ten Carat Rock

Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up

3 Bourne Hot - Takes a steep class drop and figures to get claimed after the race; Edwin Maldonado will need to nurse his early speed.

8 Sidepocket Champ - If is comes down to a stretch duel, the bugboy will be at a disadvantage; has plenty of back class to upset there.

Long Shot - 7 Lolo El Canonero

Race 8 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Elektrum - Has just missed winning twice in a row, maybe the third time will be the charm; has gone longer distances in France.

11 Emerald Star - Ran dull in her U.S. debut; two big changes, races first time with Lasix and gets Rafael Bejarano to pilot.

Long Shot - 12 Qiaona

Race 9 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Blind Dreams - Like the cutback in distance from route to sprint today; figures to sit a trip and come roaring home late.

5 Sweet Sense - Glad to see Iggy Puglisi getting some work; the key for me is I would never hesitate betting a horse he is on.

Long Shot - 2 Del Mar Dixie Best Bet - 6 Enchanting Lady (race 5)

Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 22/4/$24.40; Long Shots, 11/3/$38.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 976/256/$1,635.00; Long Shots, 488/71/$732.80; Best Bets, 59/21/$91.80

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #4 Gallico (6/1) in race 9 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Wisecracker won at Keeneland paying $3.60 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.20 to show. Stats - 48/35/$227.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
