Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, December 26

Post Time Noon

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 2-year-olds

11 Justonemorething - Tiny edge to win the first race of the meeting; has speed to lead or sit close up throughout.

3 Guyfromtheskyfive - Tepid chalk in the opener of a 6-month run in Arcadia; tactical speed to sit a decent trip.

Long Shot - 7 Hot Lightning

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

8 Vegas Street - Ran a winning race for this level last time out; figures to stalk the early speed just to his inside.

7 May B - Could be lone early speed, the best bet in horse racing; like that he has been protected in both SoCal starts.

Long Shot - 4 Surfing Angel

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds

5 Bound for Heaven - Speedball will have simple tactics tonight; try and break on top and improve your position.

1 Jimbaran Bay - Has the tactical edge of saving every inch of ground; sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this lowest level.

Long Shot - 6 Captain Carchy

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

1 Wabel - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this one was swallowed up late by The Gomper in his career debut.

4 Steam Play - This is the other Bob Baffert charge; expect one, likely this one, to take back off the early pace.

Long Shot - 6 Iancol

Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

9 Bench Light - Gets class relief from 3 graded stakes for this; it won’t change his style as he rallies from out of the clouds.

6 Husband’s Folly - Has been very productive for the Jerry Hollendorfer barn since claimed last May; always fires late.

Long Shot - 3 Mal Verde

Race 6 - 7 furlongs, $300,000 La Brea, Fillies, 3-year-olds

1 Taris - Makes first start for the new Simon Callaghan barn; will be interested to see if they try and change her running style.

10 Jojo Warrior - If you’ve followed me for 16 years, you know I like cut back horses; they tend to finish well in elongated sprints.

Long Shot - 3 Thank You Marylou

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), $200,000 Mathis Brothers Mile, 3-year-olds

9 Home Run Kitten - Had no chance trying to close in the BC Turf Sprint; this may be his best distance over his favorite course.

7 Heart to Heart - There is a lot of early speed signed on today; tepid chalk has a near perfect resume on turf though.

Long Shot - 10 Long On Value

Race 8 - 7 furlongs, $300,000 Malibu, 3-year-olds

8 Shared Belief - Went from Horse of the Year chalk to getting passed by Bayern and California Chrome after the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

2 Chitu - Among 4 Bob Baffert colts in today’s stakes; will they block for one another like in organized roller derby?

Long Shot - 3 Indianapolis

Race 9 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

7 Foolish Ways - Gets class relief from a difficult stakes for this MSW; like the rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot.

8 Paulina’s Love - Another getting class relief from a graded stakes for this; HOF Gary Stevens takes the call, a positive move.

Long Shot - 9 Indian Princess

Best Bet - 1 Wabel (race 4)

Los Alamitos Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/4/$16.00; Long Shots, 6/1/$6.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80

Los Alamitos Final Totals - 194/59/$289.40; Long Shots, 91/7/$77.60; Best Bets, 12/7/$22.00
