Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, February 22
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds
3 Magna Warrior - Claimed by Don Warren off a second straight win; the key is to maintain, has lots of back class to repeat.
5 W. Giles - Chance to be lone early speed, especially with a sharp break; was claimed by Philip D’Amato last time out.
Long Shot - 4 Echo Zulu
Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
8 Private marina - Has had a million chances, but never faced a field this slow; like the subtle cut back in distance too.
5 Fiftyshadesoffun - Looks like it could be a chalky early daily double; second start for Mike Pupye off a 18-month hiatus.
Long Shot - 1 Bernier
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies, 4-year-olds
5 Sprouts - Ran like a short horse in last facing quarterhorses; has a lot of back class and should improve a lot in this spot.
1 Ina Mina - Iggy Puglisi doesn’t get many chances, but he always tries hard; chance to hug the rail and show speed throughout.
Long Shot - 4 She’s Flush
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up
1 Alamo - This is a perfect example of a live cut back horse; showed excellent early speed, now dropping from a mile for this hill sprint.
8 War Destiny - Ran a fast sprint, albeit second last time out; tries turf for the first time, but showed well over Del Mar synthetics.
Long Shot - 11 Bellamy Concerto
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
8 Z Besha - Walked out of the gate in debut, trailed badly, but came flying home too late; Bob Baffert baby will improve with racing.
12 Milhaud - Ran evenly in debut from a barn that is not known for debut winners; Richard Mandella babies also improve with experience.
Long Shot - 1 Ketos
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
3 Daddy D T - Taking a big class drop from four straight stakes for this; chased a good one in Bolo last time out in the Eddie Logan.
8 Broughton Kitten - Exiting three stakes races to get class relief tonight; has no early speed, so will be closing from dead late.
Long Shot - 6 Stormy Liberal
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Gold Chaser - Got eligible for this condition two races ago when he graduated for $35K; that opened up a lot of categories to run in.
1 Arlington House - Like the rail post at one mile on turf or dirt; key for me is the short run to the first turn and saving ground.
Long Shot - 10 Short Heat Wave
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), $75,000 Joe Hernandez, 4-year-olds and up
2 Winning Prize - For forgiving handicappers who can draw a line thru the Play the King at Woodbine; that was a real top shelf field.
6 Home Run Kitten - Exits five graded stakes races for this easier spot; shown to love the Santa Anita sod and has good closing ability.
Long Shot - 1 Sweet Swap
Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds
9 Bossmon - Blaine Wright has only sent down live runners to Arcadia; his go to guy has been Tyler Baze who has roots in the Northwest.
8 Captain G - Showed a ton of improvement when raced for a price tag in last; gets 7-pounds off with the bugboy Brayan Pena.
Long Shot - 3 Empire Cat
Best Bet - 3 Daddy D T (race 6)
