Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Mar. 26
March 25, 2015 - 10:12 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds
6 Believe Too - NoCal shipper joins the barn of Richard Baltas; he has teamed up with Rafael Bejarano for a lot of victories.
1 Great Lou - Take a steep, albeit red flag, drop to face much softer company; you’ll know if he’s live by the tote board action.
Long Shot - 5 I’m Popeye
Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
4 Fort Cady - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; ran one time for $50K price tag and ran second.
1 Lute It Up - Takes a big class rise off an even effort in last; like this sprinter stretching out, figures to show more speed.
Long Shot - 6 Vodka Texted You
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
4 Next Right - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low level; need not be much to blister this group to smithereens.
8 Honey Fever - Been away closing in on two year; would be easy to overlook but for the barn of sage veteran trainer Bill Spawr.
Long Shot - 5 Eddie Would Go
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 Queen of the Hill - When horse return with a no claim provision, I considered that a big plus; free protected shot for Doug O’Neill.
3 Mahalo Princess - Logical chalk off a massive class drop; has early speed to grab the lead in a potential no passing zone field.
Long Shot - 4 Monstro Ness
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Gold Chaser - If you’ve followed me all these years, you know how much I like cutbacks; should show a powerhouse late finish.
4 Brother Soldier - Tepid chalk has turned in two good speed efforts, one on turf and one on dirt; is well spotted to do even more good.
Long Shot - 6 Rocket Heat
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
5 Raised a Secret - Been away 8-months and now returns in a tougher level; fast bullet work two back may have tipped his hand.
4 Five Palms - Bob Baffert horse has been away 15-months; this is where the clockers have been watching him, or hiding him.
Long Shot - 2 Solid Wager
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
7 Gouyen - Won by the slimmest of margins in first try down the hillside turf course; hill lovers tend to repeat their good efforts.
2 Discatsonthesquare - Reunited with Aaron Gryder who won on her two races ago; still puzzled why Gryder the rider doesn’t get more work.
Long Shot - 4 Little But Lucky
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Dulcemia - Odd, aggressive move after losing for $20K last time; 6-YO has some back class numbers fast enough to upset these.
8 Really a Princess - Logical chalk has had some close calls of late; speed to lead or sit close to the early pacesetters.
Long Shot - 4 Racing Hope
Best Bet - 4 Next Right (race 3)
