Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, March 6

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

4 Zippinaroundtown - May like the 2-turn route where the early pace is likely to be softer; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.

6 Summer Veil - Sprinter stretching out figures to be forwardly placed; key vote comes from champion jockey Rafael Bejarano.

Long Shot - 2 Open Day Light

Race 2 - 7 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

3 Katerrific - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low price tag; could easily be an early daily double for Rafael Bejarano.

2 Quay Factor - This bugboy Pena is green as August Memorial grass, but he’s allowed to be; the key is will he learn from his mistakes.

Long Shot - 4 Diamante Mobile

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

4 Carrick Bay - Big rally last time was just a couple of feet short; this is a good class level for her to repeat a good effort.

2 Miss Boom Boom - Takes a big class rise to face winners for the first time; figures to save all the ground under Kent Desormeaux.

Long Shot - 6 Sidepocket Run

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up

8 Traweek - Like the positive rider switch from green bugboy to Edwin Maldonado; these are his friends and he should run big tonight.

6 Peacenik - Don’t be worried about Rafael Bejarano off; Bill Spawr likes to use Agapito Delgadillo as he is a very competant rider too.

Long Shot - 10 Red N Black Attack

Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

6 Sammy Mandeville - Exits a career best effort, albeit a second, last time out; may be he’s better on dirt than on grass.

1 Logan’s Moon - Mike Smith can pick his spots and this is one of them; stretches out around 2-turns for the first time.

Long Shot - 7 Day of Fury

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

6 Young and Hungry - Typical green debut, slow early, fast late; moves inside where Gary Stevens should still find a decent trip.

3 Anytime Anyplace - Speedy sort should like the turf rail out 30 feet tonight; Martin Pedroza is a top speed rider too.

Long Shot - 8 Currency Exchange

Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 3-year-olds

9 Heat the Rocks - Exits a couple of Cal-bred stakes for this easier spot; like the cut back in distance where he’ll finish stronger.

11 Lost Bus - Been away since August Del Mar but may have faced better then; Mike Smith prefers the wide route so this post is fine.

Long Shot - 8 Easter Fever

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

8 Fighting On - His record down the hill is OK but has a lot more seconds than wins; like Kent Desormeaux to carve out a nice trip.

1 Zimmer - Remember that the rail post is more a disadvantage down the hillside course; Tom Proctor 9-YO does like the hill though.

Long Shot - 6 Jomelo

Race 9 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds

10 Dulcemia - Was scratched the other day as an also eligible in a race he could have won; should be salty in a very pedestrian group.

2 Comealongwithme - Returns to SoCal after a stint in NoCal; plenty of starts at Santa Anita albeit most were on the turf.

Long Shot - 1 L X Sunrise

Best Bet - 9 Heat the Rocks (race 7)

Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$39.40; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 671/179/$1,131.00; Long Shots, 337/49/$485.40; Best Bets, 41/15/$67.20

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #1 Tradesman (10/1) in race 3 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Megyns Gold was canceled at Oaklawn Park. Stats - 32/23/$144.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
