Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 22
May 21, 2014 - 10:46 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
7 Enchanting Lady - FTS from the Bob Baffert barn; suspect she will get bet a lot lower than her 1/1 morning line.
3 Seduire - May get value from the FTS from the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; watch the tote board for additional clues.
Long Shot - 6 Slew’s Charm
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Hanserella - Has shown herself to be a lot better on grass than dirt; tactical apeed to sit a nice trip throughout.
6 Lakota Road - Elvis Trujillo makes his way to SoCal from South Florida; he has ridden some summers at Monmouth Park.
Long Shot - 2 Quay Factor
Race 3 - 7 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Kate’s Event - Like the cut back in distance from 2-turn mile to this elongated sprint; parking lot post is another positive too.
3 Tres Borrachos - Has come a long way from contesting graded stakes races; he’s older, 9-YO, slower and has no other place to go.
Long Shot - 2 Gladding
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 This Cat’s Awesome - Woke up with a career best effort when tried for $30K price tag; no monsters in here, repeat race can win this.
4 Stadtpark - Must respect the tandem of Iggy Puglisi and Paul Aguirre; Iggy is a good rider, just doesn’t get much afternoon work.
Long Shot - 1 Broadcaster
Race 5 - 5 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Charissa - Tiny edge in one of the worst races of the year in SoCal; edge due to big class rise and blinkers on.
3 Tough Business - Not often a horse can run a zero and be the morning line favorite in SoCal; big class drop in the lone reason.
Long Shot - 1 Regift
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Woebegon - This outside class dropper may be able to win on memory alone; Santa Anita is her preferred main track.
7 Julio’s Gold - Speedball figures to go as fast and as far as she can; staggerfest to the wire in this abbreviated sprint.
Long Shot - 5 Mahalo Princess
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Queen of the Hill - That was one awful turf race in last; returns to dirt where she smothered an easier group two races ago.
6 Sea John’s Spirit - Has finished in the money three races in a row; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot - 6 Prayer Be Mine
Race 8 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Star Act - Big rider switch from bugboy to HOF Gary Stevens; he doesn’t ride many, so his select few mounts are usually very live.
3 Burning Arch - Typical green debut, slow early, fast late; if HOF Mike Smith can get a better start, her job will be much easier.
Long Shot - 1 Serene Melody
Best Bet - 5 This Cat’s Awesome (race 4)
Santa Anita Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/5/$24.20; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #6 Front (5/1) in race 8 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total.
