TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
2 Sharp Bella - Has run twice for $40K level and finished in the money; facing a very slow group tonight.
4 Tiz Anna - Was claimed for $30K two races ago by Vladimir Cerin; looked overmatched in MSW last out.
Long Shot - 3 Mom Nana Petrie
Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
3 Spring Bloom - She rarely runs a bad one; also seems to lack a killer instinct, she is the fastest filly in the field.
4 Always a Chance - Sean McCarthy does not train many, but they all seem to run well; tactical speed to sit a trip.
Long Shot - 6 Chimi Dee
Race 3 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies, 4-year-olds
1 Melanistic - Big rider switch to Edwin Maldonado for the money shot; like saving ground from the rail.
2 Flashy Delight - Chalk got off to a slow start in last; she ran better on dirt and synthetics.
Long Shot - 7 Cupid's Bling
Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
7 Forest Boy - Second in last to a good Bob Baffert colt Belvin; has ever right to improve here on the stretch out.
1 Curly Top - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; blinkers off for a rail skimming trip.
Long Shot - 2 Footbridge
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
6 Indecise - Finished like a waterfall in last; love it when a horse looks like its running downhill.
1 I Dazzle - Chance in a difficult heat; Jack Van Berg doesn't win much anymore, but this mare is live.
Long Shot - 4 Jolly Days
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
1 Fiesta Express - Tiny edge in the hardest race in the pick 6; if you can get past this heat, you've got a chance.
4 Cee's the Year - Tepid chalk in a wide open affair; Edwin Maldonado has been one SoCal success story.
Long Shot - 10 Someenchantd Evenin
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
3 Purim's Dancer - Returns to turf which clearly is her preferred surface; teamed with best finisher Garrett Gomez.
7 Hidinginplainsight - Versatile sort has speed to lead or follow close up; been second too many times lately.
Long Shot - 2 Cayanna
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
10 Whipstock - Big class drop and huge rider switch for the money shot; will be finishing fastest of all.
8 Unmarked Bills - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom rung; could be a lock 'em up quinella.
Long Shot - 2 Goodbye Charlie
Best Bet - 6 Indecise (race 5)
