TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
6 Jesse’s Giacomo - Sharp win in last despite a trouble trip; I like it when a horse wins and runs a slower Beyer speed figure.
7 Island Frolic - Speedball has the right pilot for that tactic, Edwin Maldonado; he impresses me as a tough guy to pass late.
Long Shot - 3 Exclusive Story
Race 2 - 7 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
3 Ondine - Like the cutback in distance from 2-turn route to sprint; figures to find her best stride in the lane.
2 Caribe d’Oro - FTS from Tom Proctor barn, he uses his go to guy Garrett Gomez; the tote board will tell you how live she is.
Long Shot - 5 Tres Belle
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $60,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
8 Black Tunic - Edwin Maldonado surely will shoot to the front with this filly; has won two straight on sod, wire to wire.
5 Chokecherymary - Last speed effort will do well here with the turf rail out 24 feet; has won 3 times on the grass before.
Long Shot - 6 Esentepe
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds
5 Chico Suerte - Good second in last considering some rough traffic; big rider switch to Garrett Gomez for the money shot.
8 Kingsbury - Claimed by the clever Adam Kitchingman; beaten favorite in last, these clearly are his friends at this level.
Long Shot - 1 Penny Maker
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Corinthian Melody - Among many taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Garrett Gomez on many live ones.
2 Roust ‘Em Bertie - Reunited with Joe Talamo after an out of the money finish in last; should appreciate the softer pace today.
Long Shot - 1 Hair On Fire
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Langfurs Lightning - Ran well in last off a long layoff; Gary Stevens is in Dubai, Rafael Bejarano is a pretty good sub.
4 Laugh At Life - Won like a good thing in debut; ran with speed again in last, but facing winners for the first time is difficult.
Long Shot - 9 Noble Kent
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), $70,000 Pasadena, 3-year-olds
6 Rosengold - Two nice wins in a row, so we don’t know where his ceiling is; stretching out first time around 2-turns.
7 Procurement - Chased Rosengold in last as a beaten chalk; suspect Garrett Gomez will pull the trigger a hair sooner.
Long Shot - 8 China Prince
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
6 Holiday Rose - Leap of faith that the last dismal race was a test drive; shortens up in distance and should be tighter.
7 Flashy Delight - Big class drop from $32K to $16K tonight; has won half her six starts, an admirable record.
Long Shot - 1 Katy’s Kitty
Best Bet - 3 Ondine (race 2)
Santa Anita Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/7/$37.80; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$7.20
Santa Anita Park Totals - 918/244/$1,588.50; Long Shots, 455/59/$671.60; Best Bets, 52/20/$81.60
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #2 Seeker (5/2) in race 7 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Blue Deep ran out at Gulfstream Park. Stats - 50/35/$267.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
