Bucs too good for Seattle
October 19, 2008 - 9:00 pm
As three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck stays home to nurse his injuries, the Seattle Seahawks go on the road today for what could be another beating.
The Seahawks are 101/2-point underdogs at Tampa Bay, and handicapper Bruce Marshall of The Gold Sheet suggests a bet on the Buccaneers.
Hasselbeck is out with a bulging disk in his back and a hyperextended right knee. He will be replaced by Seneca Wallace, who also has been bothered by an injury.
Seattle, 1-4 straight up and against the spread, has lost its two road games this season by 24 and 38 points.
"The Seahawks have been a formful point spread entity in recent years, especially when on the road. They have been awful as a visitor, dropping five straight since late 2007," Marshall said. "Seattle looks helpless here with Hasselbeck still hurting."
Tampa Bay has excelled as a home favorite, covering seven of its past nine chances.
Marshall (goldsheet.com) is 2-3 on his best bets. He outlines technical notes in more Week 7 games:
• Tennessee at Kansas City: The Titans are 5-0 versus the line this season and 6-2 under the total since late last year. Chiefs coach Herman Edwards is 2-7-1 against the spread at home since 2007. Edge: Titans and under.
• San Diego at Buffalo: Bills coach Dick Jauron is 12-6 ATS at home since 2006. Buffalo went over the total in its past six home games. Edge: Bills and over.
• Dallas at St. Louis: The Rams are 6-15 ATS since 2007, including 2-8 ATS at home and 1-6 in the past seven as home 'dogs. The Rams went over the total in six of their past eight. Edge: Cowboys and over.
• Minnesota at Chicago: The Bears have won and covered four of five as series hosts. Chicago is 17-4 over the total in the past 21 at Soldier Field. The Vikings went over in their first three on the road this season. Edge: Bears and over.
• New Orleans at Carolina: The Saints have covered their past six games at Charlotte, N.C. Edge: Saints.
• Denver at New England: Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has had Patriots coach Bill Belichick's number, going 5-1 ATS in the past six meetings against New England. Denver is 4-2 over the total this season and 20-7 over since late 2006. Edge: Broncos and over.
