Chargers shut down Bengals for softball victory

Jordyn McDonald tossed a three-hitter and struck out 14 on Wednesday to help Clark's softball team to a 2-0 home win over Bonanza.

Elisa Dawson and Shannon Chapman each had an RBI single in the Chargers' two-run fifth inning.

Bishop Gorman 2, Spring Valley 0 -- At Willows Park, Hayley Atiyeh threw a one-hitter to lead the Gaels over the Grizzlies.

Atiyeh struck out six and walked four. She lost her no-hit bid on a single by Megan Otruba with one out in the top of the seventh.

Atiyeh also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Aaryn Ellenberg was 2-for-3 and scored both runs for Gorman.

Sierra Vista 12, Western 0 -- At Western, Desiree Laswell tossed a one-hitter, striking out 12, as the Lions blanked the Warriors.

Brittany Reynolds had two RBIs for Sierra Vista, and Courtnee Sanchez added two RBIs and two runs.

Eldorado 5, Rancho 4 -- At Eldorado, Denise Ortega's double scored Shelbee West with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Sundevils beat the Rams.

Jasmine Pickett hit a home run and had three RBIs for Eldorado.

Las Vegas 6, Valley 1 -- At Las Vegas, Jennifer Gliddon fired a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk to lead the Wildcats past the Vikings.

Monique Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Las Vegas.

Desert Pines 10, Chaparral 2 -- At Desert Pines, Megan Robbins homered and Nikki Lagesse doubled twice to lead the Jaguars to victory.

Teresa Ibarra pitched the distance for Desert Pines, giving up four hits.

Pahrump Valley 10-11, Moapa Valley 0-0 -- At Pahrump Valley, Ashleah Barney tossed a no-hitter in the first game of the doubleheader as the Trojans swept the Pirates.

Barney struck out eight and walked one.

In the second game, Tori Thomas threw a one-hitter, striking out four.

BASEBALL

Bishop Gorman 12, Miami Southridge 2 -- At the College of Southern Nevada, Jeff Malm was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs to lead the Gaels to victory in the Calvary Chapel Tournament.

Neil Lawhorn was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Gorman.

Bonanza 15, Clark 0 -- At Clark, Chasen Shreve tossed a two-hitter and went 2-for-3 with two runs as the Bengals routed the Chargers.

Chris Antoku was 2-for-2 with four RBIs for Bonanza, and Kris Bryant was 2-for-2 with a home run.

Sierra Vista 20, Western 0 -- At Western, David Decarlo went 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs as the Lions rolled past the Warriors.

Thomas Godfrey threw a two-hitter, striking out 11.

Las Vegas 11, Valley 1 -- At Las Vegas, Bryce Harper went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs to lead the Wildcats past the Vikings.

Wes Grass tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven.

Rancho 7, Eldorado 1 -- At Eldorado, Seth Turner's bases-clearing double in the second inning helped the Rams down the Sundevils.

Paul Deaver had a six-hitter, striking out seven and allowing an unearned run.

Chaparral 22, Desert Pines 6 -- At Desert Pines, Chris Butler went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and five RBIs as the Cowboys scored 18 runs in the final three innings to rout the Jaguars.

Jacob Dahlman also drove in five runs for Chaparral.

Basic 14, Liberty 1 -- At Liberty, Darren Parke went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Wolves past the Patriots.

Brett Wellman was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and an RBI for the Wolves.

Gulliver Prep (Fla.) 12, Faith Lutheran 2 -- At Faith Lutheran, five of Gulliver's eight hits went for doubles as the Raiders downed the Crusaders.

Needles (Calif.) 18, Mountain View 2 -- At Needles, Calif., Donovan Anderson had two hits and three RBIs in the Mustangs' rout.

Moapa Valley 5-9, Pahrump Valley 0-10 -- At Pahrump Valley, Dallin Seely tossed a five-hit shutout in the first game as the Pirates split with the Trojans.

Iggy Wagner hit a three-run double for Pahrump Valley in the second game.
