Del Sol, Sierra Vista, Spring Valley move to Division I-A in realignment

Del Sol, Sierra Vista and Spring Valley will be realigned from Division I to Division I-A in the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association for the next two seasons.

NIAA officials made the realignment official Tuesday afternoon.

The NIAA uses a point-based rubric to align schools within the top two classifications in the state and realigns schools after each two-year rubric cycle.

Del Sol, Sierra Vista and Spring Valley were the only three of the 24 Division I schools to not gain at least 15 points in the rubric in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years.

As a result, Del Sol, which scored zero points in the rubric, will move to the Division I-A Sunrise League, and Sierra Vista (seven points) and Spring Valley (11) will move to the Division I-A Sunset League.

No Division I-A schools will move to Division I.

In addition, league alignments in Division I will change for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The league alignments will be:

Northwest — Centennial, Arbor View, Cimarron-Memorial, Bonanza, Desert Oasis.

Southwest — Bishop Gorman, Palo Verde, Shadow Ridge, Legacy, Durango.

Northeast — Liberty, Canyon Springs, Las Vegas, Silverado, Valley.

Southeast — Coronado, Green Valley, Foothill, Basic, Rancho, Eldorado.
