Donaldson’s HR sends River Cats to win over 51s
Josh Donaldson hit the go-ahead home run in the sixth inning Wednesday as the Sacramento River Cats extended their dominance of the 51s with a 4-3 Pacific Coast League victory in West Sacramento, Calif.
The River Cats' victory was the third straight in the four-game series, which concludes today.
Donaldson's blast to left-center field was his 17th of the season and propelled Sacramento (84-55) to its sixth straight win overall.
Las Vegas dropped to 68-71 and will need to win four of its final five games to finish at .500 or better. The 51s conclude the regular season with a four-game series against the Salt Lake Bees at Cashman Field starting Friday night.
Adam Loewen gave the 51s a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a run-scoring double, but the River Cats went up 3-1 in the second on Jai Miller's 31st homer of the season, followed by Jermaine Miller's run-scoring double and an infield RBI single by Wes Timmons.
Las Vegas closed to 3-2 in the fourth on Ryan Shealy's RBI double and tied it in the fifth on Jayson Nix's sacrifice fly.
Brad Mills (10-9) took the loss for Las Vegas, while reliever Justin Souza (3-1) picked up the win for Sacramento.
