Fishing Report, 11/17/11
■ LAKE MEAD -- Anglers continue to find shad from Vegas Wash to Government Wash and a few striper boils to go with them. Live shad and shad imitations have been catching stripers. Trolling with swim baits also has produced fish. In the lower basin, bass fishermen had to dig largemouth and smallmouth bass out of the brush in the backs of coves. Senkos and similar plastics did the trick. In the upper lake area, the bass have moved deep. On Sunday, winners of the Ultimate Bass tournament weighed in a five-fish limit that topped 15 pounds. Stripers and catfish are biting near the tires at Hemenway Harbor.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- The water level still is low, at about 630 feet. Fishing is fair, though, with some anglers having success while trolling for striped bass in about 30 to 50 feet of water. Catfish are on the bottom, and largemouth bass are hitting soft baits. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery plants approximately 3,000 trout every Friday.
■ LAUGHLIN -- Anglers have found success for stocked rainbow trout below Davis Camp and from the bridge to casino row.
■ URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife completed the first trout plant of the year on Monday. The agency planted fish at Floyd Lamb and Sunset parks, Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City and Hafen Park in Mesquite. The limit is three fish, whether you keep them or give them to someone else.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- The reservoirs, as of last weekend, were about 40 percent frozen. They all have been stocked with rainbow trout, though fishing action has slowed.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- The NDOW recently stocked the reservoir with rainbow trout. There is some ice at the top of the reservoir but not enough to impact fishing access.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Nighttime temperatures are cold, but the water still is wide open. Stocked rainbows will take mini-marshmallows, either alone or combined with worms, and PowerBait.
