■ LAKE MEAD -- Anglers continue to find good action for striped bass. The fish are hitting from the back of Vegas Wash to 33-Hole. Shad are abundant and within easy reach of cast nets. Top-water action is good in the early mornings, and then live bait kicks in. Jigging is also catching fish.
Shore fishermen and boaters are catching stripers in the Hemenway area, some as large as 10 pounds. Temple Bar is also giving up striped bass. The most productive hours are early morning to midday, then in the late afternoon and evening.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Striper fishing hasn't been off the charts, but anglers are still catching a few large fish near Willow Beach. Plugs and swimbaits in trout patterns are catching fish. Weekly trout plants are lining the bank with anglers eager to catch a mess. Go with light line -- 4- to 6-pound test -- and small hooks or lures. PowerBait in a variety of colors, salmon eggs and hardware will catch fish.
Near Cottonwood Cove, anglers are generally finding slow fishing for striped bass, but some of the fish being caught are double digits in weight. The catfish bite is still good; one lucky angler reeled in a 13-pound whisker fish.
■ LAUGHLIN -- Anglers are finding good fishing for stocked rainbow trout from Davis Camp through Casino Row. Worms and hardware are catching fish. Striped bass are keying in on the planter trout, so swimbaits might be a good option. Fishermen's Access is currently under construction, so access in this area is limited.
■ URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife winter trout stocking program began in early November. Anglers have had success with fly patterns, lures, PowerBait and worms.
Plans call for plants each Monday through the end of the year, though the actual stocking dates are dependent on variables such as the weather and road conditions.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Trout fishing is still good. Anglers have had success with nymphs and leech patterns on Dacey Reservoir. PowerBait is the ticket at Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs. Anglers might find some skim ice early in the mornings.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Weather forecasts are predicting snow and freezing temperatures through the weekend. Anglers might find ice along the shoreline. PowerBait, worms or a combination of worms and mini-marshmallows will catch rainbow trout.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Recent trout plants have made for good fishing. Work the deep water along the dam. PowerBait, worms, mini-marshmallows and small spinners are effective bait options. Weather forecasts are predicting snow and freezing temperatures through the weekend.
