FISHING REPORT
■ LAKE MEAD -- Anglers had success with striped bass over the holiday weekend, during the day and after dark. In daytime, anglers have been throwing top-water hardware into striper boils scattered from the Vegas Wash area into the open basin. Jigging also has proved successful. Boulder Harbor has been productive, both inside and outside of the harbor. Most fish are on the small side, however, at about 1½ to 2 pounds.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Willow Beach is still kicking out large striped bass. The most recent list included fish weighing 19, 25 and 27 pounds. Fishermen are fooling the bass primarily with AC Plugs, though a Spro or LA Slider will also catch fish. Anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove are catching stripers and catfish. Cut anchovies and sardines are working. Catfish are biting on night crawlers. For bluegill and green sunfish, work the shallows near cover.
■ LAUGHLIN -- Trout stocking won't begin along this stretch of the Colorado River for another month, but anglers are catching a few rainbows. Striped and smallmouth bass can be caught from Davis Dam south to the Avi resort.
■ URBAN PONDS -- Anglers are catching a few largemouth bass at Floyd Lamb Park. Bluegill have been seen cruising the shoreline and working pockets of cover. Catfish action is sluggish but should improve after the mid-September fish plant. The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking anglers to observe the three-fish limit on these waters.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Known as Sunnyside to old-timers, this area offers sportsmen the chance for an early morning and afternoon dove hunt, with largemouth bass fishing sandwiched in between. Bucket mouths have been hitting plastics and spinnerbaits. Weeds are an issue.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Weeds are making things difficult for shore anglers until the weather turns cooler and water temperatures drop. Fish the pockets of open water. Rainbow trout will take various PowerBait flavors, as well as night crawlers or worms combined with mini-marshmallows.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishermen are finding the water level seasonably low, but they can still catch stocked rainbow trout and some crappie. Look for fish along the dam.
