FISHING REPORT

■ LAKE MEAD — Though shad are being used as bait, they are not quite in the shallows yet. Fishing near 33 Hole in the Vegas Wash area has been productive for average-size stripers. Anglers report success for catfish and stripers using anchovies along the tires at Las Vegas Boat Harbor. Overton continues to produce stripers and bass with lures and bait.

■ LAKE MOHAVE — Fishing continues to be fair to slow around Cottonwood Cove. Striper anglers are being blanked, with a few largemouth and smallmouth bass being caught. Trout fishing at Willow Beach has been fair to good. Anglers are using small lures or PowerBait to catch fish.

■ URBAN PONDS — Bluegills still are the leading fish being caught at the ponds, though they are not biting like they were previously. Fishing with a mealworm below a bobber has been a simple yet effective technique. Expect a decrease in trout and a better chance for catfish after the next plant. The Nevada Department of Wildlife will host a Free Fishing Day event from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Boulder City Pond in Veterans Memorial Park. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — With warm weather in the forecast, trout fishing should be at its peak. Bass fishing should continue to be good throughout the summer.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Trout still are being caught despite the warm weather. PowerBait, worms, lures and flies are catching fish. The reservoir is full of fish after plants of tiger and rainbow trout.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Trout, bass and crappie have been biting small nymphs and brown buggers with either white or green mixed in. PowerBait and worms also have been catching fish.
