Fishing Report, March 22

■ LAKE MEAD -- Striper action remains slow to fair, but anglers are finding success with gizzard shad and anchovies. There have been recent reports of top-water activity but nothing substantial. One angler reportedly caught a 42-pound striper while trolling in the Overton Arm. The Vegas Wash area continues to give up small stripers. Black bass are moving into the shallows to prepare for the spring spawn. Catfish are taking cut baits.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- AC Plugs and other trout imitations are fooling double-digit stripers on the river below Willow Beach. Best fishing is in the early morning. Stocked rainbow trout have been hitting PowerWorms following the weekly plant. Farther south, largemouth and smallmouth bass are moving into shallow water and have been hitting grubs and jigs. Catfish action is beginning to improve, with fishermen finding success with cut anchovies fished on the bottom.

■ LAUGHLIN -- Stocked rainbow trout are providing good action, with carry-over fish as heavy as 4 pounds occasionally taking baits. The year's final plant took place this week. Night crawlers and small lures have been catching fish. Striped bass fishing has been slow.

■ URBAN PONDS -- Trout fishing has been good. At Floyd Lamb Park, yellow PowerEggs have been successful in recent days. Mepp's and Panther Martin spinners also are productive on these waters. Limit is three fish.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- High winds associated with passing weather fronts have kept anglers away. As the winds begin to settle, so too should the murkiness in the area's reservoirs, and fishing should improve dramatically.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Water is open along the shoreline, but enough ice is on the reservoir to make fishing a challenge. Fish can be found along the edges of the ice, but don't go onto it.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The reservoir is ice free. Hare's Ear Nymphs or a night crawler combined with a small piece of marshmallow are generally productive baits for catching rainbow trout. Bass and crappie action remains slow.
