Five-run rally helps lift 51s past Tacoma

Andy LaRoche continued his torrid hitting Sunday for the 51s in helping them to a 6-2 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers in a Pacific Coast League game at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

LaRoche hit his second three-run homer in as many games to cap Las Vegas' five-run third inning. He added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The 51s (48-52) opened Sunday by completing Saturday's rain-suspended game. Tacoma (44-57) won 4-3 on Jeremy Reed's eighth-inning sacrifice fly to halt the 51s' nine-game winning streak.

In the regularly scheduled game, Delwyn Young paced Las Vegas' 10-hit attack with two doubles. The 51s' other eight starters, excluding the pitcher, each had one hit.

Bryan LaHair went 3-for-4, including an RBI double in the third inning and a solo home run in the eighth, for Tacoma.

Spike Lundberg (5-4) earned the win, working the first 5 1/3 innings and giving up one run on eight hits and one walk. He struck out four.

Tomo Ohka (0-3) lost after permitting five runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings.

The teams play a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. today in Tacoma.
