Ex-Gorman football coach Sanchez wins U.S. Army award

Former Bishop Gorman High School football coach Tony Sanchez has been named the U.S. Army All-American Bowl national coach of the year.

Sanchez guided the Gaels to a 15-0 record, their sixth consecutive large-school state championship and a No. 1 national ranking this season.

He will receive the Yoast Award, named for legendary high school coach Bill Yoast.

Sanchez left Gorman on Dec. 11 to accept the head coaching position at UNLV. He was 86-5 in six seasons with the Gaels.
