Godfrey, Taylor thwart 51s as Sacramento caps series sweep
Graham Godfrey pitched six strong innings Thursday night, and Michael Taylor hit a three-run homer to lead the Sacramento River Cats to a 7-1 victory over the 51s in West Sacramento, Calif.
Las Vegas (68-72) was outscored 29-6 in losing all four games in its final Pacific Coast League road series of the year.
Godfrey (14-3) held the 51s to one run on six hits and one walk while striking out five.
Taylor's home run, which followed a double by Chris Carter and a single by Josh Donaldson in the third inning, gave the River Cats (85-55) a 3-0 lead.
Carter doubled again in the fifth, spurring a three-run inning that included two consecutive walks, a run-scoring wild pitch and a throwing error.
Chris Woodward's two-out RBI single in the fourth was the 51s' lone hit in 10 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Las Vegas starter Chad Beck (2-4) gave up six runs -- five earned -- on five hits and seven walks in 4 1/3 innings.
David Cooper went 2-for-3 with his PCL-best 50th double.
