R-J’S HILL, SCHOEN WAGER FANTASY BANKROLLS ON WORLD CUP

Las Vegas Review-Journal sports writers Adam Hill and David Schoen have been given $5,000 fantasy bankrolls to bet during the World Cup on either sides, totals or props. Below are their bets for today, with an explanation of their picks:

ADAM HILL

Bankroll: $4,635

Tuesday: Lost $400

Today: Betting $300

Bet 1: $300 on Netherlands (plus-120) to advance over Argentina

Comment: Five straight losses have really crushed what once was a healthy-looking bankroll. Hopefully, Arjen Robben’s aggressiveness can help get us back on track. Robben leads a potent attack that should enjoy seeing a team actually trying to score against it instead of sitting back and praying for penalties.

DAVID SCHOEN

Bankroll: $4,215

Tuesday: Lost $150

Today: Betting $300

Bet 1: $300 on Netherlands (plus-120) to advance over Argentina

Comment: I’m doubling down on my emotions, as I’ve rooted for the Oranje since the days of Dennis Bergkamp and Marco van Basten. All that aside, this match should suit the Dutch much better than the past two against Mexico and Costa Rica. The Netherlands can allow Argentina to dominate possession and then counterattack, much like it did in the World Cup opener against Spain. A showdown against Germany 40 years after the Dutch were stunned in the final by their heated rival would be epic.
