TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $12,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Zippin E - Mike Mitchell is on suspension so the barn runs under the name of Phil D'Amato; has a lot more back class.
4 Simply Put - Not much to get excited about, but expect P Val to send early on; may be a no-passing-zone field.
Long Shot - 5 Sambista
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds
5 Mesa Thunder - Huge class drop, this is the epitome of a fire sale; proven he can win without the early lead.
2 Purse Lava - These are his friends at this class level; tactical speed to stalk the pace and grind late.
Long Shot - 6 Warren's Dove
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $14,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Candy's Affair - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; from the live John Sadler barn.
3 Good Friday Gal - Tepid chalk in a miserable looking field; faced much better foes at Del Mar, been away 4 months.
Long Shot - 4 Scent of Chrism
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Moonlark - Rafael Bejarano is a solid sub for Joel Rosario; Bob Baffert charge fits with this class field.
5 A Lil Dumaani - Joel Rosario had options and chose to ride for Peter Miller; Miller barn has been red hot this meet.
Long Shot - 1 Stoneside
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $26,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
5 Otto Von Voom - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this class; got going too late in last, better trip tonight.
2 Keen Bidder - Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; not big on winning, but cashes many paychecks on the grass.
Long Shot - 4 Seattle Ruler
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
4 Chapman's Peak - Lost to a very talented colt Alcindor by a dirty nose; his race to win as long as he doesn't bounce.
6 Screaming Destiny - Been away 10 months, but showed talent before going on the shelf; main question will be his fitness.
Long Shot - 1 Tap It In
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $40,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
2 Blue Jay Attack - Rather comfortable in turf sprints; always at the mercy of pace, will sit back and make one brush.
6 Royal F J - Dead-late closer has never sprinted before; Garrett Gomez likes to come from behind, simple strategy here.
Long Shot - 3 Pack Your Bags
Race 8 - 5 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Pic O Dream - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like that Garrett Gomez will ride.
8 Guilded Reward - Tepid chalk in an ugly looking finale; cashed a check for third in last in an improved try.
Long Shot - 1 Suances Sweetheart
Best Bet - 4 Chapman's Peak (race 6)
Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$36.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$4.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40
