July 23, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds
Pinal - Was flattered when Grace Upon Grace won wire-to-wire on Friday; high cheese to lead these all the way.
Ukandoit - Draw a line thru the Will Rogers and his form looks fine; proven he does not need the lead to succeed.
Long Shot - Format V.
Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Call Me Honcho - Gunned down the speed as the favorite in last; very consistent regardless of turf or synthetics.
Pop'shands Are Hot - Few jockeys ride this course as well at Corey Nakatani; saves ground, grinds it out late.
Long Shot - Detroit Donnie
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Carrie Rose - Sprinter stretching out can be dangerous if left alone on the lead; makes her turf debut this afternoon.
Laura Beasley - Second best to Nashoba's Key's kid sister Nashoba's Excess; should be a tepid favorite with these.
Long Shot - Move On Gypsy
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Weneedtogeteven - Gary Barber was leading owner at Del Mar, suspect that's his goal again; watch the tote for clues.
Ms Treasure Hunter - Of the ones with experience, her last 2 races look best; top rider Joel Rosario is always tough to beat.
Long Shot - Goonie Goo Goo
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Single Shot - Of the ones with experience, his resume looks best; poor start in last cost him all chance.
Night Justice - FTS from the underrated Peter Miller barn; you'll have an edge of seeing the tote board action.
Long Shot - Self Defense
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), $75,000 Osunitas, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Princess Haya - Exits much tougher races in the graded Beverly Hills, Gamely and Wilshire; square price on a class horse.
U R All That I Am - Tepid chalk in a much-harder-than-looks turf stakes; the trip will be all important here.
Long Shot - Ruination
Race 7 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Joburg Star - Got an education in turf sprint career debut; should improve and show much better tonight.
Just Imagine - Tepid chalk due to solid workouts and champion rider Joel Rosario; lots of FTS, watch the tote board for clues.
Long Shot - Rock So Hard
Race 8 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), $300,000 Eddie Read Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Loup Breton - Beaten chalk had no chance in the Whittingham trailing a slow pace; can really quicken in the lane.
The Usual Q. T. - Sharp return for this SoCal favorite; he is 2-for-2 on Del Mar grass, clearly the one to beat.
Long Shot - Victor's Cry
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Church Avenue - Been away 6 months; showed some ability already, well rested and working fast, interesting.
Fleet Royale - Loves to run second as 8 of 16 placings shows; most in here would love to run second a few times.
Long Shot - Gotham Spirit
Race 10 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Otto Von Voom - Pro win last time, he's now 4-for-5 wins in his turf career; seems to do just enough to get his nose in front.
Saravas Wild Again - Solid second in last chasing the chalk; Terry Knight adds blinkers on to turn the tables.
Long Shot - Sufi Dancer
Best Bet - Single Shot (race 5)
