TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-yer-olds
Indian Gracey - Was flattered when Tell a Kelly won the Darley Debutante; should be second best to no one here.
Star Presence - Part of a favored entry for Bob Baffert; was fanned out to the parking lot, gets a better trip tonight.
Long Shot - Big Tiz
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Pretty Kinzie - Just missed in last in a solid second; dead late closer will be chewing up yardage late.
Our Bellini Bikini - Gutsy win over NW2L condition claimers; has some back class where a repeat race is possible.
Long Shot - Yasuda
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Runflatout - FTS from Carla Gaines who is having a tremendous meet; fast worker must show high cheese in the p.m.
Channel Surf - Even run in career debut for Eoin Harty; bred to go long, figures to improve with ground, experience.
Long Shot - Prayer for Relief
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Avani Force - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; big rider switch to Martin Pedroza.
Warren's Moon - Logical chalk off a good run for a $25K price tag two back; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot - Teenage Dancer
Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), $300,000 Del Mar Derby, 3-year-olds
Twirling Candy - Might be the shortest odds this side of Zenyatta in the Lady's Secret; adept on both turf or synthetics.
Kid Edward - Good second to incredible run by Sidney's Candy in the La Jolla; sits in arrears and makes one brush.
Long Shot - Royal F J
Race 6 - 1 mile, $75,000 Adoration, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds
Miss Pleasant - Should see a patient ride from Rafael Bejarano; especially with all the speedball in the field.
Silver Swallow - Another dead late closer; her forte has been in 1-turn sprints, see if she can adapt to 2-turns.
Long Shot - Moon de French
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $59,000, 3-year-olds and up
Supreme Summit - Been away 6-months, but faced plenty of toughies on his resume; main question is his fitness level.
Spaniard - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; expect Guns On the Table to be the one to take back.
Long Shot - A Lil Dumaani
Race 8 - 1 mile, $100,000 Torrey Pines, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Switch - John Sadler can get his picture taken with Twirling Candy and this filly; her back class towers over these.
Fortunia - Just missed last time in a solid try under Corey Nakatani; this will be her synthetic debut.
Long Shot - La Nez
Race 9 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $39,000, Claiming $32,000, 4-year-olds and up
Deal Breaker - Class edge to the extreme drop from $80K to $32K today; Mike Mitchell having another strong Del Mar meet.
Silent Soul - Game win last time now slides down one class level; Joel Rosario is battling Rafael Bejarano for the riding title.
Long Shot - Knockout Artist
Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Royal Import - Not much on winning, but a good horse for the place pick all; tactical speed to sit a nice stalking trip.
Warrens Wild Thing - Was definitely affected when bugboy lost his whip in midstretch; will be grinding in the lane.
Long Shot - One French Kiss
