HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,600, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Leyva Man - Getting long in the tooth, but this is the lowest price tag he's ever run for; reaching the now or never stage.
Aeromon - Tepid chalk in a non-descript field; typically the less starts the better at this bottom maiden claiming level.
Long Shot - Souvenir Summer
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Sky Chant - Like horses that win and run a slower Beyer than the previous race; has yet to hit her ceiling yet.
Sure Nice - Biggest question is fitness returning off a 9-month hiatus; last race was good graduating, been sidelined since.
Long Shot - Jinx
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $42,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Attar of Rose - 5-YO Eastern invader makes her SoCal debut; goes to the underrated Kristin Mulhall who can deliver the goods.
Irish Torrent - Four seconds on grass so she is knocking on the door; short price for her lack of killer instinct.
Long Shot - Maria's Dane
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Champagneandlilies - Like the turn back in distance to this elongated sprint; killed chalk players at 1/5 odds.
Jana Gail - Leap of faith that Joel Rosario is landing on a live piece; seems to be improving, slowly, but surely.
Long Shot - Princess Beau K
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $44,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Hockley - I don't typically pick just graduated horses, but this guy was very impressive; saves all the ground inside.
Thomas Baines - Big class relief from the Santa Anita Derby to this; caveat is he's been much faster on synthetics.
Long Shot - Coloursoftheglen
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Right to Work - Draw thru her last when eased and you have a serious contender; like that Rafael Bejarano climbs aboard.
Krakow Queen - Exits a sharp maiden win, was flattered when Poetic Riches won next out; facing a very soft group.
Long Shot - The Women's Diva
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $44,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Samantha's Rule - Rafael Bejarano made my pick by jumping off Alpine Yodel for this; expect Marty Jones to have a nice meet.
Boehle - Speedy sort will ensure that the favorite, Ruination, won't have a cakewalk like last time; catch her to win.
Long Shot - Alpine Yodel
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
Taxi Fleet - Takes a big class drop for this even if he is shipping in from NoCal; tactical speed to sit a good trip.
Acquire the Fire - My prior comment about Marty Jones holds, he will have a good meet; can win the double with different jocks.
Long Shot - Get Off the Sugar
Best Bet - Taxi Fleet (race 8)
Hollywood Park Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$20.80; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
Santa Anita Final Totals - 1,290/323/$2,107.60; Long Shots, 634/106/$1,070.20; Best Bets, 77/30/$154.80
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #1 Stumbling Block (5/2) in race 7 at Tampa Bay. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Wednesday, Party of Eight won at Tampa Bay paying $3.60 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Stats - 77/56/$430.90
