HORSE RACING
July 14, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $49,000, Claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Justinplace - Sure looks like a cold quinella between Baze and Talamo mounts; it'll be interesting to see who waits the longest.
Our Partner - If one of the top two choices doesn't win this, it'll be a surprise; Baze is looking to hold onto a slim lead.
Long Shot - Hidden Point
Race 2 - 7 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up
French Souvenir - First time blinkers on in last failed miserably; West takes the blinkers off, expect Talamo to rate him.
Swiss Lad - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class level; Knapp wins a lot of races with this tactic.
Long Shot - Sonic Tiger
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Madera Royal - She proved once and for all last time that she does not care for turf; her dirt race two back could trounce these.
La Chola - Everything Ellis is sending out this meet is running fast; FYI, he may have fired all his bullets prior to Del Mar.
Long Shot - Golden Via
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Chancellor - Half brother to grade 1 winner Tocchet figured to like the grass, and he did; saves all the ground for Flores.
Monte Bajo - Flores exits this guy to ride Chancellor; Talamo is an able replacement, Drysdale adding blinkers on for focus.
Long Shot - Senior
Race 5 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
I'm All Out - I suspect the longer the races get, the more he'll like it as a son of Include; perfect post for elongated sprint.
Robbos Courage - Like the turn back in distance from 2-turn turf races for this; hate the post, but he'll settle in early.
Long Shot - Kruger Park
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Soda Pop Syd - Was a hot item in debut at Del Mar last summer, returned with a good effort; switch to Talamo for the money shot.
Fifth Base - First time running for a claiming price made her competitive in last; similar try will put her in the trifecta.
Long Shot - Almost a Ten
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Devine by Design - Did not fare well last time in first race facing winners; she has shown ability and Talamo can rate her.
Doubloon City - Wasted precious energy early when she stumbled leaving the starting gate; blinkers off to get her to relax.
Long Shot - Cheese Face
Race 8 - 1 1/8th miles, $350,000 Swaps, 3-year-olds
Tiago - Race shape and Cushion track tendency should favor his late closing style; expect a crowd up front and he'll circle late.
Albertus Maximus - Good try last time chasing Desert Code in a paceless Affirmed; the pace should be quicker, it'll help him.
Long Shot - Desert Code
Race 9 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $46,000, 2-year-olds
Dollar Mountain - Was flattered when Leonides ran great in a stakes next out; Mandella babies improve with more experience.
Dixieland Easy - Ran evenly in debut for O'Neill and can be taken to improve with more racing; pedigre to be a nice one.
Long Shot - Media Man
Best Bet - I'm All Out (race 5)
Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$26.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.20
Hollywood Totals - 995/237/$1,552.00; Long Shots, 486/68/$724.80; Best Bets, 59/26/$108.80
