HORSE RACING
July 25, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 3/8th miles (turf), Purse $68,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
I sipingo - Dollase charge has been improving with every race, a lot to like; has good tactical speed and hot rider Baze.
General Sherman - Arlington import is a perfect 2-for-2 over Chicago lawn; he is bred to be any kind, so respect his class.
Long Shot - Dadsalittleunusual
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $72,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up
Publication - 8-YO may not be the sturdiest animal but he runs hard every time; will be flying late from out of left field.
Dr. Einstein - Del Mar sprints over Polytrack have been kinder to speed than 2-turn routes; give this guy a shot to hang on.
Long Shot - Exceeding
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Mi Arcobaleno - Frankel has resolve to having a good Del Mar meeting; Polytrack 2-turn races have definitely favored closers.
Why You Ask - Sprinter stretching out for the first time will be running against the Polytrack grain; will need a slow pace.
Long Shot - Inclusive
Race 4 - 5 (turf), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Kapalua Bay - Tired late in first race off a year hiatus; may not have liked Cushion track, so Ellis pops him on the grass.
Buck Tuddy Buck - Claimed by Carava and spotted nicely for a quick ROI; suspect the Mig will sit behind and make one big run.
Long Shot - Ten Downing Street
Race 5 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Lady Flasheart - Taking the biggest class drop in horse racing from MSW to claiming; still expect Hollendorfer to take off.
Bros Sis - O'Neill is not one for pounding on FTS, but this race is asking for the unknown to perform; like that Talamo rides.
Long Shot - Spontaneous Ana
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $34,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Alpha Lucky - Guarantee they sent this one from Arlington because he moved way up over Polytrack; Espinoza needs to sit a trip.
Afleet Aloha - Failed as the favorite in last, chance to redeem at a much better price; Talamo does a good job saving ground.
Long Shot - A Toast to Tanner
Race 7 - 5 1/2 furlongs, $125,000 Graduation, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Run Brother Run - Will try to win the old fashion Del Mar way, on the engine; Gonzalez will go as fast and as far as he can.
Georgie Boy - Was pressed into the pace too early in last in a solid try; Smith figures to ride with more patience today.
Long Shot - My Redeemer
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
America's Friend - Did a classic pop and stop in a turf MSW sprint; Abrams drops in for a tag and could wake up with slowpokes.
Kentucky Waltz - Has run a couple good races fast enough to make the trifecta; Talamo can win a few if the chips fall right.
Long Shot - Justice Is Brief
Best Bet - Mi Arcobaleno (race 3)
Del Mar Monday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$20.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.80
Del Mar Totals - 95/25/$170.00; Long Shots, 48/7/$68.40; Best Bets, 6/4/$18.40
